I recently asked a contractor about this... the wood siding is within very good shape, so near are no issues other than paint / don't paint.

He advised the cost of installing vinyl is equivalent to ~3 paint job, so his advice was "it's a concern of how long do you intend to stay in the house."
Vinyl is what it is. Your questioning this will potential be the next prospective buyers reservation/hesitation. The market individual what it is now, you'll have to wow next to some sizzle and bang for the buck yor prospects. The bottom line here is do you own the room within the sales price to be paid a change? If you do, and want to cut down on the houses sitting on the market time, install something else. . . but for. . .

Answers:    consider the costs of installation or repair vs the sales price. the buyer's inspector will also wonder about the condition of the wood underneath and manufacture disparaging comments, though out of the other corner of his mouth comment about the easy upholding.

my general thought? vinyl is just fine and doesn't lower the sale price enough to warrant replacing it. i hate to see a clothed product landfilled just on speculation.
No need to replace the vinyl siding. The best solution would be to purely have it painted to a fresh and neutral color.
