Tin ceiling opinion looked-for? Any & all opinion taken on whether or not installing a tin...
Any & all opinion taken on whether or not installing a tin ceiling - such as those in ancient brownstone bldgs in NYC - surrounded by the combo living rm / dining rm of a single-family residential home would be a good/bad/tasteful/etc idea. House is a 1950 cedar-shake shingle-sided home contained by a very soft residential area. I be entertaining this as an option over the existing ceiling which is contained by absolutely horrible condition due to the previous owner's paucity of care (to influence the least) when putting his house together. House has wood floors, fireplace, etc next to something of a country-ish look.
I figure any that or overlaying it with 1/4" sheetrock. It would sure be a helluva lot easier than repairing the awful work of the existing sheetrock departed by the previous owner.
Any opinions on which path to go?
Answers: To attain the look of a tin ceiling at a far less expensive price would be to use textured wallpapers. Most home modification stores have a far-reaching variety of papers that are designed specifically to cover up unsightly walls where on earth replacing is not an option. I hold seen on TV where on earth that type of paper come in a tile outline and after it was applied to the existing ceiling (using wallpaper glue) it be primed and then pained next to copper paint. Then, they used a dry brush technique with a dark color to achieve an antique look.
I enjoy personally used this type of wall covering to conceal paneling and it worked extremely well. No one would ever know that here is paneling under that wonderful wall.
A tin ceiling will be loud; it absorbs no nouns, reflecting it all.
