Do you usually use one whole piece of textile or do you cut up the back side contained by squares and sew it. Seems like greatly of work to do to the back what I did to the front.
Answers:    The backbone is usually one solid piece. If the quilt is large, piece your protection and add a border snake that coordinates with the front (as it is expected to peek out at the edges). I use sheets -- inexspensive and sizeable -- saves tons of time and money.

Quilts are merely patterned on both sides to be reversible.

As a memo, the back should be for a time smaller than the front so it will drape over the bed, or it will start to sag below the quilt.
It depends on what size quilt you made. For a small quilt and queen size quilt you can use a sheet that matches a color surrounded by the front of the quilt. If it is large you may want to sew four substantial panels of a nice stuff to match. I hold seen both sides of the quilt be pattern. I have older ones from my husbands great aunt that is streaked on both sides.
