You call for to prime the wood first. Use KILZ..it works the best. You may need 2 coats.

did you put a primer down first??

Answers:    I think we requirement more information. Do you have an exposed wood girder that is painted? Is the wood particle showing through the paint? Are markings on the beam showing through the paint? What is showing through?
