Ok here's the deal, I am getting geared up to remodel my bathroom and I was doing a moment or two bit of demo just to see what I am up against. I took up a small unit of the tile in my bathroom to see what liberal of subfloor i have. The one I hold is the diagonally laid wood across the joists. SOoooo my examine is do I need to lay another floor (ie plywood) over that formerly I can replace the thile with linoleum or is near some other "thing" that needs to progress down instead of plywood??? A few side notes, I am not doing this myself, my cousin is a nonspecific contractor and he doing it with me. I simply have to stir to Lowes and buy all the materials and I have palnned on buying subflooring but now that I see that I already hold a subfloor (duh) do I need to to put new plywood on top. Just creating a shopping list. Any backing is apperciated!!! Thanks!!!
Answers: Yes, you need a smooth deposit of plywood as a subfloor. To lay sheet vinyl over what you have - you will see the shape of the wood telegraphing through the vinyl.
Yes- if you are going to linolium. You should put plywood over the diagonal sub floor. 1/4 "Luann mahogany should do it.
Good luck near the tile demo!
