What are some good (and affordable) ways to help my kitchen stand out and join resale value?
Cleaning up (real thorough cleaning) is a start. You would be surprised how dirty the floors, counters, cabinet, appliances and walls can get. If you have a router, or can borrow one, route a topical edge on all the doors and drawer fronts. Sand and paint the cabinet and put new (more expensive) knobs on them. If the flooring is discouraging, peal and stick tile can make a big difference and it's flowing to put down. OR...if you have the money, put a laminate wood floor down. They have some that will hold up to lofty traffic rooms. Counter tops can be easily replaced today with pre-cut counter tops. They are a well brought-up alternative if you don't have a big budget. Buy a new sink and/or faucet if they really look fruitless. Paint the walls, wash the windows and put up different curtains and arrange the "things" on the counter so it doesn't look crowded or messy.

Sometimes, just stepping back and looking at your space can show you what wants replacing or repairing. Good luck!
Concrete countertops are a new, affordable stone-alternative.. can be dyed to look similar to marble. Reface existing cabinets, or at least update them. Buy some "kitchens and bath" or other such magazine for inspiration. You can imitate their cabinets, and find decent color schemes for the backsplash/walls. You might even know how to just paint the cabinets, if you find the right look. If you hold vinyl flooring, measure the sq. footage, go to local outlet store, and buy an odd-lot of affordable tile. If the vinyl's contained by good shape, you can tile right over it. Glass tile backsplash is relatively inexpensive. Don't buy in to that crap obsession of granite (cue fancy music).it's expensive and worthless. Just have a good color plan w/ whatever you choose.i.e if you chose butcherblock countertops.incorporate wood into your theme of kitchen. I wouldn't turn w/ formica or Corian counters b/c it would cut down on your clientelle w/ ppl sticking their nose up those type of counters. Lighting is also important be paid sure your fixture gives off a positive daylight and doesn't look to dated. Cabinitry can get expensive so you can prob get away w/ refinishing them yourself or lately sticking some nickel handles on them to make them not look so dated as within the 90's gold stuff. geeeesh I watch to much HGTV

Update old appliances. Try and set a certain colour model and stick with it. Do not over do colours that are too bold or clash. Update curtains, wall colour and even a window treatment (IE alien panes ) can help. And when ever anyone is in that to see the house, from real estate agent to someone looking to buy, light candles, hold bowls of fresh fruit and flowers set out and bake bread! Trust me, it sounds weird but it give a HOUSE a HOME feeling. And watch the BBC show House Doctor. She other has great ideas! Install strange, modern appliances
