I am *really* annoyed when the bed sheets don't cover the box spring on a bed, and I don't have time to do a custom bed ruffle. We have to put a queen bed with box spring contained by our kids' room with no bed frame (for now) - but I know the sheets will look somewhat funny if the bed isn't high adequate, and a bed ruffle might be too long. If I don't use one, I risk the comforter not being long ample and exposing the box spring.

Any ideas for my situation?
Answers:    Get a cover instead of a comforter. My daughter has a full size bed, specifically up high because of the frame, so I bought a queen size spread and it works great. You could do the contrary. If the queen bed sits on the floor, buy a full size bed spread. Bed spreads are so much easier to wash than a comforter.
you could use a fitted sheet on the box spring to cover it in need it dragging on the floor.
