Answers:    seal formerly and after grout and then once a year or so.
Is it ok to put mat? or tiles?
yes a sealer will prevent the grout from sticking to the travantine as it is stone and thus porous. however go glib and don't put on so much it runs down between the tiles this could cause some problems beside the grout in the cracks. use a sponge and sqeeze out the excess between applications
