This cabinet was originally stained in the region of 20 years ago. It is showing signs of wear. I want to restain and varnish it to give it an even finish.
Answers: Go over it near steel wool. Try not to do the areas that turn white, That means that the finish is gone and you are removing the older stain or you could say color. Get a separate stain and try to contest the color. Close is good ample. Apply with cloth as heavy as needed to meeting, with another napkin wipe of until color is the same. Only be needed . Then clear coat varnish all. flimsy steel wool again . Then varnish as many time as you similar to . 3or 4 coats Will do best.
Absolutely. The stain can not penetrate through dirt and wax buildup...or a previous coat of varnish or urethane.
