I have a chair similar to this one: http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/prerel/prhtm...

The problem is that the form cover is now splitting/tearing and needs to be replaced. I know I can remove the form (and back-rest) from the wheel base. Do I also involve to remove the arm rests and how would I do that?

How would I put on (reupholster) new material to the stool? Except for the seat, the chair is otherwise contained by "good shape".

Any suggestions, tips or ideas?
Those chairs really aren't designed to be reupholstered... I'm sure you've figured that out by in a minute...

In order to make the available job look professional, you will pretty much need to dismantle the whole bench from the seat up. That means you will want to take off the armrests, the funding on the backrest, and the bottom of the seat. Essentually, you need to hang on to removing plastic pieces until you have the parts of the backrest and seat cushion exposed where on earth the extra (existing) upholstery attaches to something solid.

Chances are good that you will destroy a few small plastic locks within the process, rendering the chair utterly useless.

If I were you, I wouldn't embezzle on that kind of project with a bench thats designed to become landfill fodder when it goes bad. However, I wouldn't throw it away basically yet if the chair is still surrounded by good working order.

I enjoy a similar chair to the one in the photo. The armrests on mine are not designed to come past its sell-by date. They are held in place by plastic rivets connected to the base of the form. From what you've described of the damage to your chair, I would do this:

- Use some flawless old fashioned duct tape to fix the tears surrounded by the seat. If you can find some, you might want to try black 100 mile-an-hour tape instead if the splits are distinct from the side view of the chair.
- Make a pillow out of upholstry foam and the cloth of your choice to fit snugly over the seat. (1/4" would be just fine for this)
-Attach the pillow to the form with hook-and-loop tape.

It won't look "professional" unless you're right with a sewing machine, but it will solve your problem like a shot, while possibly even making the chair more comfortable. If you aren't handy with a hypodermic, you might try to find a premade pillow at your local superstore. The nice thing is that if you don't like it, you can other try to dismantle the chair later, or possibly sport for a chair massager (which will also cover the seat of your bench quite nicely...)

Good luck.

I suppose that this must be a very comfortable stool if you want to have it reupholstered , if you are confident to do this yourself , you need to remove the side arms within order to give you free access to fold the replacement yard goods or leather. you need to cut a piece long and wide adequate to fold under and you will need a stapler to hold the fabric/leather within place, then you need hot bonding agent to apply the finishing touches. To be franc with you , you might be able to verbs this off ,but you will not be able to tailor the stool to the design that it has, so if you are happy to hold a plain looking chair then by adjectives mean do this yourself, otherwise take it to a professional to own it recovered. if you dont have a problem with covering up the leather.

buy some vehicle seat covers.
put some hot glue along the form and back before you put the covers on and it should stay on other.

here's a few pictures to give you a clearer idea.

All depending where you live, to re-upholster the chair will cost you anywhere between $38-$95 a patio not including the cost of fabric you will need. You might in recent times want to consider getting a new one. You can get them on Dutch auction. For suggestions pls visit http://sofa-review.blogspot.com/

It is not easy to restore your health and I have sewn for many heaps years.

I would suggest you make or buy a seat cushion and set it over your seat.

And just buy a untried chair later down the road.
