We've been making futile attempts to exploit as our own general contractor where on earth we would wrangle our way through bureaucracy to acquire permits, sub-out some of the nastier demanding work, do as much as humanly possible ourselves, and conceivably save a few bucks beside a bit of satisfaction to boot. Answers: As a contractor I know how it feel to put hours into planning a job giving extensive details to the homeowner and have the the homeowner who according to his own words didn't even know where to start on a project , after take your estimate and move about around to your competitors until they find someone who will do it 5% cheaper,or decide to use your step by step estimate and sub the work out. It can be exceptionally frustrating ,maybe he's purely trying to make sure he's given up the ghost for free.
