ok, this is going to sound very uninformed to you that have much experience with remodeling so I apologize contained by advance.
I am going to redo my bathroom - it have that 1970's tile halfway up the wall, so will remove that and put in beadboard, contemporary tiles on the floor, tub, toilet, sink, medicine cabinet and paint. pretty much everything but a new door...
My friend's friend is a contractor and I will enjoy him do the work hopefully in August. My question is, do I budge to random stores and find the tub, toilet, counter etc that I want ahead of time and get them deliver later? what's the order of events here...
Answers: i would start looking at items you similar to, new tile, tub, etc. get some prices, shop around. you can walk ahead and order and pick up items you find that you definately want and store in your garage or somewhere you have space. the paint, just pick the brand and color you resembling but don't pick it up yet. that can be done when your contractor starts the work. the beadboard is a standard material so i wouldn't verbs about that yet any. your contractor, hopefully, has already come and looked at the space and has talk to you about what you want to do, so he's taken measurements and given you a price. take your measurements near you to the tile shop so you can have an idea of what your strange tile is going to cost you. order an extra box or two to allow for flawed tiles, or broken pieces. if your contractor hasn't given you measurements or a price, get him on the stick and turn ahead and get the info from him so that you can do some of the legwork beforehand. you would be amazed at how much money you can save by buying objects yourself. good luck!
