I have wired the reds to the live terminal, black tothe independent and yellow/green to the earth but I own a black wire near a red sleeve left over. Do I rope it to the spare block on the terminal or does it go beside the other lives?
Is it ok to paint a underground room...
Answers:    You are nearly there..
Move the plain reds to the spare block on the terminal. THEN
connect the black chain with a red sleeve to the live of the fitting.

EDIT:
Those who give a thumbs-down haven't a clue when it comes to UK lighting wiring.

And Michael H, if you put the switched live spinal column to the neutral as you suggest you'll short the circuit when the desk light is switched on...
