ok. in my house we own plain old stained and varnished woodwork. if we want to paint it white, do we hold to strip the varnish or prime it or anything? or can we just paint right over it?
Answers: Hello,
If the existing varnish etc. is surrounded by sound condition and not flaking, chipping, first prime it out entirely beside a good competence primer, specific to your needs. Zinnser make great primers and are generally available at most fitting paint stores.
Once you've primed the surface you'll be all set to paint next to whatever finish you want.
Just net sure the top coat is as good of a competence as the bottom coat.
You do get what you settle for with paint.
Benjamin Moore, Pratt & Lambert are both excellent choices.

If you own a dark stain.I would most possible use an enamel paint....Or if you are opposed to that try Killz and afterwards a water soluble Latex...........I devise either would work...Good Luck
