Just got a different apartment with a couple friends and we're looking for some inexpensive ways to build it our own. any ideas?
Answers: Paint is one of the cheapest materials available to you, and if you step to a paint store and ask about mis-tints (colours that be mixed for people afterwards refused) you can often bring back them at 50% off. Don't forget that paint works all right on furniture, picture frames, etc as well as on walls.
Shop around at some second appendage thrift shops for accessories close to lamps, clocks, small furniture, and showy conversation pieces. It is incredible what you can do with a $5 light and some trim from a dollar store.
You might also want to check out what's available in your nouns on craigslist.com -- they even have a "free stuff" partition. Even if something you get for free costs $15 to reupholster or fix up to your partiality, it is still a good deal.
Another choice is wallpaper -- not necessarily for on the walls though. A bold pattern can be applied to a piece of plywood (wrap it close to a present at the corners) and hung on the wall as art, it can be used on a table top (great for concealing old damages but you really must apply a clear coat over the wallpaper), and you can also use it to cover smaller things close to book ends, or even change the look of a clock next to an ugly facade.
Good luck & enjoy your unusual home!
Well, Ikea is a great place for inexpensive things
