Need help-stained table top wrong color...? My husband picked out a cherry type stain and stained the new...
My husband picked out a cherry type stain and stained the new table top for the dining room table. Problem is the wood contained by the room is Walnut and this table now does not contest anything and can't be used. Can we sand it and then stain it the correct color? He swears it is purely a bit off-it is more than a bit it very much a cherry color very soon and not the rich walnut that the rest of the room (including the table base and chairs) are. I am praying I am not out the $120 surrounded by wood for the table top that my uncle built for us as a house warming bequest.
sure sand it try some color on the bottom of the table , or gain some samples at the store.
I know how it feels to enjoy a piece of furniture that is not the exact shade.
Yes, he can sand the surface down and re-stain the table top.
It does work. :)
Answers: Sure you can strip it and/or sand it and refinish it. If you decide to sand it product sure you sand with the particle as the stain you put on it will show any markings in the wood from sand. I would also encourage you to do a audition to match the rest of your wood surrounded by the house. And remember when you buy stains at the store that you can mix them together to achieve the right color. You can also make the addition of clear if the stain it to strong.
