Will it be out of style in a few years? Does it hold like mad of dust and dirt? Does it look messy if not vaccumed on a daily basis?
Answers: A lot depends on the composition of the fiber and the nub. They come in wool, wool blends and synthetic fiber. Synthetics are commonly great for high traffic areas because they resist crushing and minimize vacuum and shoe prints. I tend to estimate the minimal nub size look neater and are easier to maintain. Obviously, a tight twisted nub holds smaller quantity dirt and dust than a longer looser one does. As for dating a room, friezes were surrounded by (and manufactured differently then) for a while during the 70's and did fall out of favor specially among builders and designers, so it could once again be a short term trend.
