How about workbench lights? Some fluorescents strips and/or something on a swivel/extension arm.
Does he own a cabinet to organize his tools? Something near drawers (both shallow and deep) is helpful.
Does he enjoy a bench-mounted vise?
Anyone polite at drywalling ceiling?
Most of us are picky roughly our tools, etc. So it would probably be wiser to buy him a nice sized gift pass from somewhere like Home Depot. He can later buy exactly what he wants.

Or you can break-in his work bench next to his wife dressed sexy on it? :0

Well, I'd recommend one of two things.

If a personality has abundantly of tools, then they want a good channel to keep them organized. So find a honest tool chest or tool organizer that would work for his tools and the area where on earth he has his workbench. A well brought-up way to do specifically maybe filch him through a tool store one day and a short time ago watch what he starts checking out or kindly of ask a few questions as you step through without giving away your plans.

If not that, we adjectives love a nice gift card for Craftsman tools.

If he doesn't have one (and he probably doesn't enjoy one, if he is building a new bench) a hold-fast is a totally handy device. It has a long shaft, which slides down a hole drilled contained by the bench top (assuming he doesn't MIND drilling a 1" hole in his bench), and a lever and flat plate at the other. The lever presses down on doesn`t matter what he is working on, holding it rigidly flat against the bench surface. It sort of acts similar to a vice, but holds the workpiece flat instead of sideways. VERY handy for woodwork. You will have to find one from a specialist woodwork tool shop.

Answers:    Why not get him a clean radio or cd player to play while he is busy in the underground store. It will probably drown out the noise of the tools if you are upstairs.
