Moving contained by together-how to blend modern and shabby chic furniture? My boyfriend and I are moving in together, which I am tremendously...

My boyfriend and I are moving in together, which I am tremendously excited about...however, we enjoy *very* different styles of furniture from our two different apartments. Everything in my apartment is pastel, antique, and "shabby chic." I hold a dark rose loveseat, an antique wood trunk I use as a coffee table, a colourless green bookcase, and pale blue antique stand. He have all pitch-black wood furniture, a modern glass coffeetable, and a tan/light brown couch. This is a small one bedroom apartment. Is here a way to create this all work? We want to hang on to both of our furniture, just "blended" somehow.
Thanks for your assistance! :)
Answers:    You might modernize your 'shabby chic' by removing some of the knick-knacks, clearing spaces. Unifying color among the smaller pieces of furniture will modernize a bit, too. Anything you can do to 'de-clutter' will lend a hand bring the room closer to neutral. (Look at texture - ruffles, stacks of items, multiple fabric, lots of colors -- all make a payment visual complexity).

The modern furniture can be softened by adding up texture or color. Add a soft throw blanket (a solid color from the floral couch) diagonally over the modern couch -- making it more welcoming.
