I am moving into a new flat, which is close to 100s of years old, haunted (apparently), and used to be a whorehouse. My bedroom reflect this age, creepiness and dirtiness. So.. naturally I want to freshen it up a bit short breaking my student budget!
The walls are yellow (ewgh!) and kinda grubby/crumbly.
Is within anyway I can just prime and aerosol spray paint it? Or do I hold to do it the old fashioned means of access? Alternatively I could put fabric on the walls near starch, which would be cheapest? I just want to go and get it neutral-looking (off white or beige or something!) so it go with my furnishings, which are adjectives nice and modern.
Any other ideas to bring it into the 21stC? gratefulness!
Answers: Lucky you! Moving into a flat with a bit of history AND a spirit! I'm sure it has deeply of charm, too. You say it "reflect the age..."
Don't even think of spray fine art those walls! Much too large a surface. Roll on some paint within a cheery, light color. You can find rid of the grubbiness easily adequate, but if the walls are crumbly, that may call for some repairs. Your proprietor should take meticulousness of this, and for the paint too, for that matter.
I wouldn't put textile on the walls. If there are some really repugnant, badly shabby places, you could frame some big panels of material, using narrow molding, or you could do the same result beside some wallpaper. Apply some big pieces on the walls, like art work, or even surrounded by groups of 3, then "frame" around it near narrow molding, painted or stained to meeting or contrast with your wall color. Both these fixes would be relatively inexpensive.
I would "play up" any interesting architectural features, such as crown molding, arched doorways, interesting woodwork, etc. You can't glibly modernize a dwelling of that age, but you can blend the old and the trial.
Frankly, I'd love to tackle that project. I'd brand name the most of the worst and work at achieving a fab place.
BTW, my daughter claims to own lived in a haunted apartment once. It be in a really old building built backbone in overdue twenties. Had some charming features: high ceiling, arches, claw-foot bathtub, base sink, etc. Even a little "rime door" used for sliding blocks of ice inside for use beside those iceboxes, old-fashioned refrigerators.
Tenants claimed to hold heard unexplained noise coming from the apartment, furniture moving around and so forth, and my daughter had a few hair-raising stories to report to. Whether it was true or purely an overactive imagination - who knows? But it made for some interesting conversations!

You can't use spray paint it would kill you inside a closed contained by or even opened pane room- the best thing is lately paint to walls. Covering with yard goods will not solve the clean problems and UCH will still be within. So I would do the paint thing and attain it really clean
