Answers:    Contemporary design incorporates lots of color and texture. Artwork is comfortable and colorful. Contemporary designs phone up for softer lines and an emphasis on comfortable texture--everything from pitted floor tiles to soft sofa fabric. Wall colors are warm and rich surrounded by the medium intensity collection (to create a truly relaxing space, avoid off whites or flaxen pastels). Example of contemporary furniture:

Modern design uses less texture and is more give or take a few form/artistic impression to some extent than function. For a modern look be sure to include basic geometric shapes surrounded by decorative accent such as oversized round chrome accessories, square-edged furnishings and rectangular-patterned rugs and artwork. Wall colors are surrounded by the light and significantly reflective color range--white-based greens, teals and blues as well as stark white. Paint the ceiling a crisp bright white to further underline dramatic architectural features. Example of modern furniture:

Personally, I prefer contemporary over modern. YMMV.

I'm a big fan of contemporary modern as capably and definitely appreciate the distinction.
