Answers: I would not mix white and ivory if the plates are plain. It would just produce the ivory look old and dirty. Same go for platinum or gold trim. None of these work. What you stipulation to do is mix patterns. If you hold a white plate with a floral design, you can mix it near an ivory plate with another design. Keeping adjectives white background, adjectives ivory background, adjectives platinum and all gold ingots is the best idea though.
When I be a kid, none of our bowls and plates matched. Not even our silverware was a complete set. I muse it's funny that it is in style very soon to mix-match things. We just did it because we weren't rich.
How do you suppose it become a fad?
