How much distance can 2x12 hold without supports underneath. I know counterweight is a factor. My house is 2 stories with a 45degree roof, the wall is on the first story. The wall would be an exterior wall to the house but our house kick out at the first story for the eat contained by kitchen. There is an 8 ft opening to way of walking between them the wall we want to knock down have the sink and another opening if you looked right to moved out it would be 8 ft opening 6 inches of covered drywall ( 2x4's inside obviously) another 35 inch introductory then a framed 55 inches of covered drywall. We would similar to to make this adjectives open, or at smallest as much as we can.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Its easier said than done to put this in words so respond if more infor is needed
Answers: i cant slightly picture your description but i am a carpenter so i will give u some proposal.
first is it a load good posture wall? if the floor joist run the same passageway as the wall then you wont own a problem. it sound similar to in your travel case it is a bearing wall so near 2-2x12s nailed together i would recrmend more than 8 foot. you could also get machinate wood otherwise known as an LVL which you could probably travel up to 12 feet. dont turn to home depot to buy. try your local lumber yard when you stir to buy and they should have a code book. virtuous luck
