My apt has black tile floors throughout and fundamentally low ceilings. Most of my furniture is different shades of brown. Looking for aid on making the space seem rather taller and more interesting. Thanks.
Obviously you want to dance with lighter colors. Green be the color for 2007 and blue is the hot 2008 color. Why don't you post a photo of the room in the makeover gallery at roomvues.com and hold one of the color and decorating experts endow with you some free advice. It's worked great for me.
Paint beside a light, bright color:
rose [ beside burgundy ]
peach [ with terra cotta ]
banana [ lemon or gold ingots ]
sage or lime [ kelly or hunter ]
aqua [ turquoise or teal ]
sky [ royal, smoke, navy ]
lavender [ purple, plum ]
Add pillows, drapes, rug surrounded by brighter versions of same colors
Room:
1] choose high furniture - not too wide; such as bookcases, chests of drawers, and entertainment center.
Place clear as crystal objects on top if room - like plants, crystal pot, sculpture with nouns visible through itetc.
2] long LOW pieces - such as dresser, buffet, dark table. 'Float' any mirrors as high as possible
3] long skinny ART pieces - such as slim ornaments, sets of two-three analogous pieces of oils, posters [ hung side by side - not touching ]
4] vertical stripe drapes
5] high standing lamps, or install recessed lighting
6] towering plants - like ficus tree
Answers: Painting vertical stripes on the walls will make the room appear taller. Also calculation mirrors gives the mirage of more space. As for a color, its up to you. Maybe a tan or something.
