I have be told that it is possible but you must screw the laminate down every nine inches to the sub floor. Is this correct?
Answers: The only point to keep the laminate floor is to remove cost to remove it right?. So why are you going to spend more money fasting it down. It requires a difficult skill to screw it down than to remove it. (assuming it is not glued down). If it is glue down , then removing it is not needed. I would remove it. By the way, is the sub floor concrete or wood?,If it is wood no problem screw it down, but if it is concrete, .... forget it. Its a nightmare.
Good luck
If you get spillages on the hearth rug, and the laminate isn't waterproof, your gonna own problems. Laminate can 'blow apart' and rot, leaving an awful smell. Best to embezzle up the laminate.
