How bad of an opinion is it to lay carpet over a floor to be exact not quite horizontal?
We just bought an aged house and have done some crucial work. The OLD hardwood floors in the living and dining rooms don't look that great (original, 1850). They're not even worth refinishing. They are not pretty level contained by all areas. Eventually we want to rank them and put down new well-mannered quality hardwood, but explicitly not in the budget right presently.
I would like to mat the rooms for now. Obviously the "best" article to do would be to level the floors first, but again, my desire is a quick fix for the subsequent few years, not another major project.
How unsuccessfully will putting down carpet over an unlevel floor turn out? I realize it may result contained by a few 'ripples' eventually.
Will it turn out okay or would it be a disaster?
Answers: I install carpet and hearth rug would be the best floor covering to put on unlevel floors, unless they are so bad nought would look right there...you would be surprised but once you put a lagging and then stretch the mat in really tight, the unlevelness of the floors are not that conspicuous.I would recommend doing just that within your situation...
Even if you put down thick hearth rug padding, traffic will eventually start flattening it so you can see the unlevel floor over the years. However if it's not too unlevel, this would be a virtuous idea for a several year term. If it's extremely unlevel, there will be snags and ripples. Also, if you intend to scratch it up in a few years to rehash the floor, don't use much of the carpet gum!
