Latex paint chipping like mad?
i painted my wood furniture with latex paint. I first sanded down the furniture and afterwards applied three coats of the latex paint. i accidentally made several scratches during moving and the paint is coming off resembling a pieces of film. is it normal that the paint that's chipping bad feels like motion picture rather than brittle?
Answers: Yes, that is average. Just like the gloves you wear for dishwashing, latex has a rubbery texture, which make it easy to clean. Most feasible the reason it's coming off your furniture so well is because you did not prep the surface properly before applying the paint.
The surface needs to be completely verbs of dirt and dust - wipe all the dust off for moral adhesion. Make sure you allow the paint to dry completely between coats.
this is what normally happens if you use latex paint over enamel, or another shiny finish. you must not own scuffed up the surface enough. if you would enjoy used kilz or bin sealer, then put the latex on, it would not have come past its sell-by date. Very unusual...possibly you needed a sealer before the three coats?
