I'm looking at updating my counter tops, Flat with no backsplash or radius, can i cement new laminate untop of existing laminate tops , it is surrounded by good shape , of late looking here to change color to contest recent color change surrounded by kitchen and batroom
Answers: On one of the manufacturers' FAQ sites there used to be this grill. The answer went something close to, "We don't recommend it, but if you are going to do it..."
Prep the old surface by cleaning and a coarse sand (look at the back of the unmarked laminate and see how striated it is.) Then apply contact cement to both sides and proceed as for original laminate installation. Be aware that the unsullied laminate will only bond as powerfully as the old be -- if there are bubbles or dampen damage to the substrate, this will not solve those problems.
Having a flush trim router bit will be of vast help, though the sites adjectives say you can do it near a knife, appendage saw and file, I would not want to. I enjoy talked to the organize technician at Formica Corp., and he says the difference between a well brought-up job and a great living is the hand file of the edges. He was the one responsible for not single work outside the corp, but he did all the internal work such as CEO's bureau and board room.
Technically you could, but not taking the extra steps in removing the aged laminate will not be as nice....it will look sloppy and half as-.dly done.
