If it's done right then this doesn't have to be true, especially if you merely do one or two of the walls in a dark colour. However, if the ceiling is a murky colour then the room could end up looking pretty depressing. explicitly one theory. but I've also heard design experts vote that using darker colors in a small room will in reality make the walls appear to recede, therefore making the room appear larger.

as long as you paint the ceiling a lighter shade (it doesn't even enjoy to be OBVIOUSLY lighter), then the room will appear its size.
a room with adjectives walls & ceiling painted bright yellow will look smaller than a room with dull brown walls & a tan ceiling.
personally, i similar to painting walls from the floor until about 8 inches to 1 foot below the ceiling, consequently starting the ceiling color on the top of the walls there. it gives the room more depth.

The world seem much larger on a bright, sunny, cloudless day than it does on a black, moonless, starless night. The more you can see, the more you reckon there is to see, even if the room's dimensions don't change.
It really depends on the room and how much feathery there is. Usually, yes, dark colors brand name the room seem smaller. If you really want the darker color contained by the room, think about possibly doing an accent wall. Whatever you do, I would not paint the ceiling the dark color. yeah it of late makes it look smaller for some reason and if you enjoy a lot of stuff in your room it will engineer it look smaller too or if its crammed or sumthin it is true. like our living room was red and we painted it camel and it looks way larger
not especially, document that some ceilings in some restaurants and lounges are painted solid black, give them a deeper feel.
some of the finishes i do are quite threatening and the room when i am finished is just as open as it ever be.
by the same token some dark paneling and brick will generate a room feel closed in and small, especially near dark beams against a white ceiling.
