Is this a fire code issue? I am going to retile my fireplace and install new hardwood floors....

I am going to retile my fireplace and install new hardwood floors. Currently, the tile around the fireplace extends onto the floor beneath the fireplace something like 24". I would like to clutch up this tile and have the hardwoods butt right up to the fireplace, but I'm not sure if this is a fire code issue. This is a gas fireplace and we use gas logs single. The fireplace resides about 12" above the ground...within other words, there are 12" tiles completely surrounding the fireplace on adjectives sides and, like I said, the extends on the floor surrounded by front with 2 rows of 12" tiles. Just to be clear, when I retile, I lone want tile around the fireplace and not on the ground. The ground would be solid hardwood. Would this be a fire code issue? How can I find out for sure?
Answers:    Just to be safe, I wouldn't put hardwood flooring right up against a fireplace, no concern what else is around there lately for my own safety. Even if you do own a gas fireplace with gas logs, accident happen and this is one fluke you can prevent.

You can find out about the fire code for unquestionable by dialing your local firehouse and explaining the situation to them.
For purposes of resale, safety, insurance it would be powerfully to find out precisely what the code calls for and follow it to the message.
