Wall is between an enclosed space underneath the stairs and the main element of the basement. I want to put a lintel where on earth the top two brick courses are and have an crack big enough to 'stoop' through, wall is around five feet glorious from concrete to top of floorboards. It doesn't go full length of house, of late stair 'enclosure'.
Answers:    Not dangerous no, but you can't be blazee in the region of it either. I don't really catch the picture of what this wall is supporting as such, but you must get the size of your lintel right, and if it is supporting blockwork above it right up the stairwell later framing timber just will not do. My direction is to either bring a builder you trust to come advise contained by such a case, or engross a structural engineer to add the size of steel you need.
If this wall is simply supporting the floor structure above next by all money, create your lintel from timbers a little larger than the joist. To support the structure while you break through I would hire acro props at lb2.50 a week as they are adjustable and will be cheaper than timber, and in the valise of a loadbearing wall, don't forget about your padstones (crush resistant blocks to hold the ends of your lintel). Good luck
sounds like it will be ok obedient luck and have a lively new year
