I understand its be one of Ikea's best sellers and have been around since 1980. I live within a small house - as such I need small furniture that doesn't overwhelm a room. I've other liked the Klippan surrounded by both style and comfort when I visited the stores, however I other wondered how they hold up. I'm looking for opinions here - preferably from folks who've had a Klippan for a while. Is it apt or bad? Cheap or cheap?
Answers: Ikea should put a "time-to-landfill" rating on their furniture.
I bought a sofa 5 years ago and it held up superlatively for 3 years. After four years the cushions started losing firmness and after 4 years the material (a cotton, woven or denim textured sham) started to split, including zippers breaking. I replaced the pillow filling more than once and fixed the zippers, patched the upholstery. Furniture is not a Volkswagon - You shouldn't own to do major repairs every two to four years (Experience next to a VW Fox transmission anticlimax at 4 years (45K mi.) and 3-year old VW Jetta that caught fire.)
Some family still like my sofa, but I surface the springs when I sit down.
I would only recommend Ikea for someone next to limited funds or no interest contained by a long-term investment or for show, but no real usage (students, a human being who changes furniture or cities every few years, someone who uses the sofa smaller amount than once a week).
I'm by no means anti-Ikea. They hold some nice merchandise and the sofa served it's purpose at the time, but durability and quality control within the furniture is horrible. My sofa is actually the third sofa of it's charitable, becuase the first was deliver with sea damage; the second have foot whose screw had no correponding threading to screw into; and the third, despite have a slight tear within the upholstery I and the movers were so frustrated I lately kept it.
Yes, you do get what you money for, and five years later I know of 2 sofas contained by a landfill and a third on the way (and two VW's surrounded by scrapyards). Some environmental impact, huh?
Hi I had Klippan years ago. I be happy beside it. Not to expensive and good looking. But remember Ikea is zilch for ever:-) But for a couple of years it is alright:-)
