My boyfriend and I bought this bed:

Our mattress is a Kingsdown, and is made entirely of latex. It's allegedly going to last forever. That aside, with a box spring, it sits 22 inches glorious on the bed. The bed has slats, so do I need the box spring? will a platform bed be adequate support? If I could be rid of the box spring it would be less high up and more attractive, but I'm worried I'll hurt the mattress.
Answers: No a box spring is not essential, but I would add a sheet of plywood or MDF underneath it for added support. I did that on my platform adding the wood over the slats for better performance, easy removal for cleaning and it tend to hold the fitted sheet better to the mattress.
This bed isn't a platform bed; the style and construction is all wrong. You do need to use box springs below your mattress on this style bed. A mattress by its self on slats won't be supported well enough; however, you could put a sheet of ply wood on the slats and that would provide support - if you did this you could skip using the box spring.
