I want to replace some interior doors in my house. I found the right size, but they are too tall. How do I cut them down to the right size.
You can trim past its sell-by date an inch or so from the bottom of hollow core doors. The framing inside the bottom of the door is about 2" tacky, I believe. Don't cut off any more than called for to clear your flooring.
You will need two sturdy sawhorses, a circular saw beside very fine-tooth (paneling) blades, a measure tape, a long straight-edge (yard stick, etc.), and a carpenter's square.
Make completely certain that you're adjectives off the bottom (don't snigger, accidentally cutting past its sell-by date the top has be reported , which destroys the door).
Measure up from the bottom on both sides of the door, use the long straight-edge to pencil on a saw line, check it for square, and SLOWLY saw sour the door. Fine-tooth saw blades don't cut as fast as majority blades, so don't force it or you will "burn" the wood. Let the saw do the work, and just move it steadily across.
Good Luck!
it depends on what they are made of. solid wood, hollow wood next to a 'stabilizer' about an inch or two from the top, do they own any type of insert-like glass? If they are solid wood you can cut them beside a circular saw. mask the door beside tape only just below the cutting row so that it doesn't splinter. Extend your question if this isn't helping and I'll look for it. My husband and I are remodeling contractors and we fit doors adjectives the time.
If they are hollow were you are adjectives them you can do the same article as with solid, but at hand may be that stabilizer piece. If so then you call for to be careful when adjectives it. It's just a piece of wood that runs the girth of the door. Also, tape both sides of the door and you can chalk up them with a sharp cut-throat blade to help protect the door even more from splintering. you should cut a hollow from the bottom of the door.
