I'm remodeling my kitchen using a 50's theme: I enjoy the old appliances, stove/fridge (white) and dinette set (red table/white chairs) already. What type of lighting be used in this era? Recessed? I'm going to paint my cabinet (not sure what 50's color), what kind of countertop should I use? Stainless? Of course I'm going near the black/white checkered floor and same color mini tile for the backsplash. Maybe I chrome outer edge of the countertop? What colors be the walls primarily- white with a connotation of coor as the cabinets (50's teal/blue)? I necessitate help choosing colors human being a single guy. I can't match for shite. Any thinking I on what was popular posterior then I would appreciate!
Remembering my grandparents homes, one home had recessed lightening and the other have a hanging lamp(s).
White be the chosen color for appliances as that's all the appliances come in at the time. Both grandparents have wood stoves for cooking/heating. Boy haven't we come along way. Wall color be a pale ashen / or wall paper of colors. Their floors be "pure" wood or linoleum covering the wood floors. Countertops - wood grain.

When I moved into my 1950s house 20 years ago, the inventive counter tops were still here. They we covered near the same, imaginative, linoleum that was on the floor.

Needless to voice, they were more or less the first things to go.
Formica be popular back later. Try to find a retro pattern beside black red and white.
Lighting was pretty essential and not very pretty. Maybe you can find something near a retro feel that will still make available you lots of light.

The cupboards be originally natural oak contained by my kitchen.

I don't think I would put teal into the mix. And it be aqua/turquoise that was a popular color.

Good luck and own fun.
Answers:    Houses built contained by the early 50s have linoleum counter tops and floors. It was because it took a while after WWII for building production to capture back surrounded by swing. Late 50s houses had formica counter tops near metal edges in the boomerang or virrvarr stencil. The cabinets would enjoy been white enamel or unconscious wood. People were not as adventurous next to color as they are now.

The kitchen usually have a round fluorescent light surrounded by the work area and an over the sink fluorescent next to a valence between the cabinets ( have an idea that scallops) If there be an attached dinette it had a limp fixture over the table. see the link for styles

If I be doing your kitchen, I would put a light gray on the walls, white cabinet, red counter top and black and white floor. Chrome pulls on the cabinets.

Have fun!
