I would read out NO, if the countertop is some sort of solid surfacing material. This materials is too consistent within texture & finish to balance resourcefully with the untaught grain & rich color of the wood.
If it is a variegated granite next it will be fine, regardless of color as you are pairing natural materials, that we will respond to favorably regardless of their color clash. Did you ever see things contained by their natural environment that clashed? Greys, greens, browns, ochres it can adjectives work.
Answers: With the cherry, why not try a lighter shade of gray? Does your kitchen have satisfactory light for these two colors?
I enjoy cherry but I found light gray granite next to black and brown coloring in it and it looks great.
