we have simply bought a new house and the fire is an awful brown colour, i want to paint it black for the time individual but dont know which paint would be the best, we want to be able to use the fire so i cant use emulsion or mundane gloss - any thinking?

Answers:    Use Hammerite Black Matt, you can get this at B & Q,or Homebase,or any well-mannered hardware store,don't use your fire for a least 4 days next start it up on a Low heat for a few days this allows the paint to harden( burn on).

Use a fire resistant enamel.
