I'm doing it as a surprise for my mom for her birthday becuase she wants to paint her room really bad and my dad is other saying we don't have the extra money. It's 12 by 14 and I know she be looking at Behr Paint up at Lowe's, I was just going to achieve her a gift card so she can pick it out but how much many gallons of paint would I inevitability and how much will it cost?
In my experiernce, Lowe's is a good outfit, especially their paint department general public. Is the existing paint color dark and/or is it an oil-base paint ? Either would require a coat of primer paint before applying the finish coat. Talok to the Lowe's representative - he can assistance you. About $50 for the paint and another $20 for brushes, rollers and edgers and tape... if you don't have any of the aforementioned paint utensils.
So contained by total, about $70 and and the time it takes you to move your furniture.
Well I am not real sure about..hold on permit me get messuring tape...brb...okay depending on the coats she requests if its a darker color, but Bahr might not needs extra coats if its biddable paint..umm, Id say she needs perchance 2 Gallons of paint and if they are like around 20-25 dollars a gallon I would deff get her a $50 contribution card to be safe, if its a couple bucks more than she only have to send that on painting her room and will be gratefull if its a lil smaller quantity than there is tax but consequently maybe can save it for the subsequent room...So yeah $50. We got a can of paint at Home Depot for $14 - and you can get the in one piece roller/pan/paintbrush kit for like $5.00 or smaller amount - even a roller set at the dollar store. So to paint my daughter's room, about your size it only took a gallon of paint and cost $20. My other daughter go to our neighborhood hardware store (we live in a rural area - but she be motivated to paint so I took advantage of that...) and we spent like $25 on a gallon of paint but it be enought to do her room and ceiling tiles..and she got the roller set/pan thing for $5.00.
I reckon Behr paint is more expensive, but not sure. maybe she was simply looking at the colors they offered - they can pretty much be turned into any brand.
But I'm sure you'll only need one gallon. $30 should distinctly be enough.
Answers: First off, Behr is only sold at Home Depot. It's a great paint, it's what we used to paint our entire house. I significantly recommend it.
With that said, Behr advertises that it covers 250-400 sq. ft. per gallon , depening on your application method, and how many coats you'll necessitate (which is dictated by the color you want, and the color you want to cover.) From personal experience, if you're trying to cover white with any dark color, i.e. not a pastel, use a primer resembling Kilz brand, and have the paint dept. tint it for you.
Now knowing you have a room 12' x 14', and assuming you hold a 9' ceiling, the formula for area is:
2 x (12' x 9') = 216 sq. ft.
2 x (14' x 9') = 252 sq. ft.
252 sf + 216 sf = 468 sq. ft.
So you should need no more than 2 gallons of paint. Ea gal go for about $24, = $50. A gallon of Kilz is less than $20, that would suggest a total no more than $70. You may want to add a few $ for tax. :)
