What type of product can I use to "seal" the paint on my cabinets so they won't score or the paint won't peel stale? The name of the product and what it does would be immensely helpful as I will be heading out to home depot and lowes next to buy these products. Any extra recommendations roughly this subject would be helpful too! Thankyou!
Please apprehend that "paints" (whether oil-based, water-borne, or lacquer) are simply clear coats with pigment added. So what you are really asking is "what clear coat can I put over my clear coat next to pigment added?" Why would the clear coat above provide any more protection than the paint underneath it?
In addition, you risk tallying several problems that you don't have presently:
* Adhesion between potentially dissimilar finish products
* Solvents in the top coat attacking and detrimental the paint coat
* The top coat yellowing
Final recommendation: You are done. Leave it alone. If you must, put on another coat of paint.
If you prefer to ignore this guidance; As far as recommending extraordinary products, beware of suggestions that recommend a brand name. Many of those brand name label multiple, vastly dissimilar products.
Lacquer is what you inevitability.It is much harder and more resistant to wear than poly's.
It should be the spray type, not brush on.
If you painted your cabinets white or a pastel color it would be best to use cab-acrylic from
Sherwin-Williams at almost $55.00 a gal.
If you use regular lacquer on these colors the lacquer will "yellow" in time.

*CAB-ACRYLIC IS SPECIFICALLY FORMULATED TO GO OVER PAINT.ESPECIALLY WHITE.
*CAB- ACRYLIC IS FORMULATED TO NOT YELLOW.
*CAB-ACRYLIC "BURNS " INTO THE PREVIOUS COAT,THEREBY SOFTENING IT, WHICH MEANS SPRAY APPLICATION IS CRITICAL TO AVOID ACCIDENTAL LIFTING IF ONE WERE TO BRUSH IT ON.
Answers: I use Varathane because it is non-yellowing, UVB/UVA protecting and comes within a variety of finishes (matte to elevated gloss). It will protect the paint and make it easier to verbs as well.
If you used a glorious gloss acrylic or grease, sealing is a spend foolishly of time and money.
