Answers:    It will go away on its own contained by a few weeks. You're smelling the plasticizers leaching out of the surface and becoming airborne. As far as I know it is not particularly unpromising for asthma, but each asthmatic is different. If it bothers you, try keeping your furnace enthusiast running all the time until the smell lessen.
