I'm not sure if I'd rather spend $70,000 on an dated historical fixer upper 2 story home or a $125,000 on a smaller but newer home in a nice residential rider.
What would you do? I like the modern look by I also close to the old wooden floors and stuff resembling that. The older home would have need of more work but it would be a lot cheaper. I approaching remodeling. But it would be nice to move in and not hold to fix anything.
Answers: Certainly the question face by many home-buyers, If you will allow me i will label some bullet points you to consider, not really an answer, just some food for thought.
condition of powered systems
structural correctness of older home
age of elder home (any historical district restrictions?)
don't assume just because its an antiquated house it was built right contained by the first place (think balloon framing)
ability to own exactly what you want
sense of accomplishment
cost of renovation
value after renov.
annual operating cost
annual taxes
etc etc
hope this help
If the old place is structurally nouns, I'd go for it. The element of those places is far better than the newer stuff. Might need plentifully of insulation, and an updated heating system.
