How to stop my floors from squeaking?

Answers:    There are a few methods:

1. You can purchase floor securing screws from HD or Lowes. They come with a fixture which allows you to drill them into your floor and sub floor at purely the right level. When properly set you then snap rotten the screw (at the shear joint) just below the floor level . . . . These things are useless. I tried them on several squeaks contained by my house and they didn't fix one of them. The just make holes contained by my floor.

2. If it is a first floor problem and the basement ceiling is unfinished you can try driving cedar shakes contained by between the floor joist and the sub floor. Identify where the squeak is, place the shake in the hole between the joist and the sub floor and just tap it contained by with a hammer.

3. Screw an "L" bracket within the squeak location and attach the floor joist to the sub floor, with short screws.
