You can remove the drop ceiling & put in drywall, but you will requirement to remove the drop ceiling framing & then frame surrounded by with wood or metal studs (to provide a surface for attaching the drywall). Then, you will inevitability to tape & mud the cracks & corners - later sand, and paint. While you're doing this, make sure you donate access panels to capture to any wiring or pipes that are above the drop ceiling. You can do it yourself, but it's a big opportunity.
