Answers:    Hang length is a personal choice. I similar to 8 inches, but someone else might like it down to the floor...that declaration is strictly decorating.
As far as feel goes...you can purchase table pad, or you can do what I did, and use a twin-size bed pad (about 4 dollars) and trim it to your table size.
