How much grout and meagre set to use when installing floor tile? I am getting ready to install approximately 410 square feet of tile...
I am getting ready to install approximately 410 square feet of tile and am at a loss roughly speaking how much thin set and grout will be needed. The tiles are 18 x 18 x 3/8 glazed porcelain and I'd like to use a 1/4 grout stripe (unless something else would be better). Any assistance will be appreciated!
Answers: Call either the manufacturer of the products, or contact
the place where on earth you bought the tile. Try HomeDepot they
sometimes have classes for customers to install their own
tile.
Go to any chain hardware store(Menards, Home Depot, Lowes). They own fully illustrated books on installing tile. Read the book cover to cover, before installing. nuts and bolts of tile installation...
First tools needed
To cut 18" tiles your gonna need to rent a wet saw a standard gain and snap cuter is not gonna be sufficent
large toothed trowel
1/4" spacers
gum rubber grout float
a few buckets for mixing mortar and grout
sponges
possibly a jamb saw to cut around doors
4 foot straight edge
Start by putting down underlayment i prefer hardi sponsor but any concrete "wonder board will suffice screw into the floor joists not just the sheathing
teem all gaps within underlayment with thinset but don't leave any dignified spots
figure out where your first row of tile will start and inscribe on the floor with a chalk line or straight turn-up
mix only as much thinset as you can use in 30 mins
start contained by furthest corner and work backwards toward the rooms exit
use your straightedge to check for high tiles
take your time its gonna pilfer a while don't rush
since ceramic tiles are not all the exact same size check your grout lines commonly spacers will not keep your lines straight your gonna have to visually check for the desired look and if anything product your grout line bigger rather than smaller you can catch into trouble by going smaller but you will probably be safe going bigger with your grout stripe
after the tile is set wait 24/48 hours before grouting moisture from the grout can preserve your thinset from curing properly
when grouting push the grout in hard across the stripe not with it use the grout float to remove most of the grout wait a few minutes the wipe next to a damp not a wet sponge and don't verbs about getting it all your gonna enjoy to wipe the floor many times to get it verbs change your water frequently to use up haze
wait 24/48 hrs and stamp your grout with a sealer for the grout you used
tada you have a tile floor
