I have some cute candid shots of vacations and kids doing silly things. I usually replace the familial photo with a new one, but some of the elder photos of silly things I like to leave, and a short time ago add new ones. How various would be a good number to leave out? Should I other replace the old ones with untried ones, or should I always leave some fun memories surrounded by their frame?
i wouldn't replace all the old photos. near are some memories i am sure that are too precious and dear to replace. i would replace a few. you can also make some great picture frames for them. if you went on leave and have shells and other things you bought or collected, you can use them to make your memories stand out. here's how ok umm no offense but this is a dumb ask but i would say whatever you want not a soul knows what the pictures look like do what YOU want
if you are slack them on the wall you could have the whole wall covered if you close to ,it's all a matter of positioning them the proper approach and by matching the frames the best way possible.
In response to your added grill ,
If those pictures are important to you ,who cares in the order of what people think it's your house, you must dust them! and aside from that the relatives on the pictures are part of your life. I own seen houses that have void picture frames hung on the wall ! At least you have people and friends for your!
Answers:    I'd get one of those photo collage frames for the old memories. That mode, you can still have them up, but you won't have 65 individual pictures taking up excess space.
Three...you should resign from three out
