I am considering laminate flooring in my kitchen because I can install it myself. However, I am concerned just about spilled water and if that will despoil the flooring or the subfloor. I cook a lot, do home can where wet from washing huge quantity of vegetables can spill, and have pet cats next to their water bowls within the kitchen.

Answers:    I install laminate and pergo is the route to go.Between the aluminum oxide finish(makes it more resiliant to scratch and stains)to the parafin wax coating on the tongue and groove(keeps moisture out of sub floor and laminate base short gluing every piece)pergo is the best to stand up surrounded by a kitchen as well as the easiest to install.The one article though is if you install it yourself get a 100%silicone caulking and overrun your expansion gap(1/4 around perimiter of floor)When you put your molding up noone will ever see the silicone so you dont need to buy the colored stuff a home upturn store will try and sell you.

I enjoy Pergo and love it! I have the elder stuff that was glue together. The new stuff is snap together. Kind of a tung and groove point. I d alot of canning and pickling and I also brew beer and own critters and never had a problem. Cleans up really trouble-free too! The main article to remember is to keep that 1/4 inch space from the walls. As the walls contract and expand beside change of season your floor will buckle if there's no cleft! Get it you'll love it!
