How do I stipple a ceiling? ...

Answers:    It depends on the texture desired. The two most common methods for texturing ceiling are 1) spraying [popcorn, knock down, splatter & ginger peel] and 2) rolling - usually joint compound at a gelatinous paint consistency and then a brush is used to stomp a texture surrounded by the mud that has be applied.

Texture can also be applied with a brush or sponge - this works okay for small areas but IMO is too much work for a whole ceiling. The heavier the mud is the heavier the texture - thinner mud = buoyant texture.
you can buy a special roller which yoy can pick up from diy stores and you will need textured paint.
