Probably the largest way interior designers can contribute is to look at the energy cycle cost of the products they choose to use. How much energy is used for harvest, production, installation, removal, recycle, waste, off-gassing, etc.

Use low VOC paints, recycle mat and/or only use companies that will come and pick up the feeble for recycling when dropping past its sell-by date new, and on and on and on
