If it has some gross design on it it wont matter because your going to cover it. You can use a king flat sheet if you want to clash the sheets you have immediately or sometimes you can find really pretty designs on sheets and for the amount of fabric you acquire its sometimes cheeper. Any way calculate the width and length of the bed and next measure from the lip of the bed to where you want the duvet to stop. Double that number and append it to the length and width plus 1/2 inch on adjectives sides for seem alowence.
